Cape Bolinao Lighthouse
Patar - Bolinao, Pangasinan
26 April 2010

Going to Patar Beach, I caught a glimpse of the lighthouse, and it made me really wanna see it up close. Like what I said in my last post, my cousin and I were blessed and lucky that a group of people let us take one of their tricycles, but one of them rode with us, so I feared I might not be able to check the lighthouse. I still told my cousin my concerns, and my cousin asked the driver if he could allow me to go down and just take a quick picture of the lighthouse before traveling back. The driver told us he can't drive uphill, but he was willing to stop for a while. It was already enough for me.

When we got to the lighthouse, I ran uphill and took about three pictures before coming back to the tricycle. I didn't stay longer anymore because I didn't want the other person to get angry. For me, just coming near and take a picture is already a big blessing, considering we (siblings and I) were really hoping and praying to see the lighthouse.

Some key information about this lighthouse:
  • It is the second tallest lighthouse in the country (the tallest being the Cape Bojeador in the province of Ilocos Norte).
  • It is located on a rocky hill of Punta Piedra point, overlooking the South China Sea.
  • It is about 351 feet above sea level.
  • It was constructed year 1905 by British, American, and Filipino engineers to guide ships and boats, and to help prevent sea disasters.

It may be just for a few minutes, but I was happy. Whenever some travel plans don't go to my advantage, I just take it as a reason for me to come back again, and I sure will travel back here because there are still some places I have yet to see.

When we reached the Bolinao Public Market, cousin Dang asked how much the fare would be, but the driver insisted we don't pay. Well, petrol is expensive, so cousin insisted she pay even just a small amount. Well, turned out, the driver was a former classmate of cousin Henry (cousin Dang's younger brother). I wished we just saw him earlier in the day so we could just hire his services, but maybe I could try that next time I travel here.
