Big Brother House - Philippines
Brgy. South Triangle, Quezon City
09 May 2010

After roaming around the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center (see previous post), we decided to eat at Banapple in Il Terrazo. I actually don't know where else we can go after eating, but since we were already in the Timog area, I asked if the Big Brother House is just near, and when Nathalie said it is, I asked if we could just walk over so I could take pictures, too.

The "Big Brother" reality TV show started in the Netherlands in 1999. Concept and name of the show came from George Orwell's 1949 novel, "Nineteen Eighty-Four." Gaining popularity, the show was picked up my many countries, and in 2005, the Philippines showed the very first season via ABS-CBN.

I still haven't watched any of the foreign "Big Brother" shows, but based on the things I have read, the concept of the show was still the same - gathering about a dozen people (who don't know each other) and let them stay inside the house. Dubbed as the "Soap Opera of Real Life," viewers got to see how each of the housemates interact with each other, but to not make the show boring, housemates were given challenges they must finish by the end of the week. The show have brought quite a lot of controversies based on the challenges and other factors, but viewers surely loved it because they already aired eight seasons of the show... and yes, I have watched it all. :)

The "Pinoy Big Brother" house is located in front of the ABS-CBN station in Quezon City, just across the ELJ Building. Every season, they change the look inside the house (to suit the concept of the season they are about to air), but the facade of the house didn't change throughout the years. At the time of our visit, they were airing the "Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash 2010" so there was no chance we could enter the house as the housemates were inside the house.

Even if we weren't able to enter the house, I really didn't let the chance pass without having my picture taken. It might not be my favorite show, but I consider this house as an icon, and I am thankful I was able to see it up close.

Big thanks to my friend Nathalie for taking this picture.
